Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), 2018: How to Apply

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) is going to organize Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), 2018. GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) is now started on 1st Sep. 2017. The last date to submit application form is 05th October 2017. GATE 2018 Examination is on February 3, 4, 10 and 11 of 2018 (Saturdays and Sundays). Interested candidates may register and fill the application through online mode only from 01-09-017 to 05-10- 2017. 

Aspiring candidates are first necessitated to go to IITG official website and fill an online application form with utmost care. The application form is integrated with the payment gateway for your fee payment that is shown in the following figure.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level entrance exam held for admission into postgraduate programs (master's & doctoral - M.E., M. Tech, PhD) at IITs, IISc, IISERs and other reputed institutions. Many Govt. public sector units for instance National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited ( IOCL), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Bharat heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Defence Research and Development Organisation ( DRDO), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and private organizations also use GATE scores for recruitment purposes. 

GATE is mainly an examination on the comprehensive understanding of the candidates in various undergraduate subjects in engineering, technology, architecture and post-graduate subjects in science. GATE is hand in hand administered by Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven zonal Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for Ministry for Human Resource and Development (MHRD) Govt. of India. Each year one of these institutes conduct GATE on a rotational basis and Organizing Institute for GATE 2018 is IIT Guwahati. 

The exam will be conducted by IIT Guwahati for 23 subjects, commonly referred as ‘papers’. Aspirants are allowed to choose only one of the 23 papers. The 23 subjects and their codes are shown in the following figure. GATE examination contains 65 questions that carry 100 marks. Along with the chosen subject GATE examination also contains of questions from General Aptitude (GA) and Engineering Mathematics with below mentioned weightage.

Aspirants must keep in mind about negative marking for multiple-choice questions. Two-third (2/3) for 2 marks questions and one-third (1/3) for 1- marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. There is no negative marking in numerical questions.

Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2018

1.     Aspirants must have completed bachelor's degree in engineering or master's degree in science (B.E./ B.Tech/ B.Pharm/B.Sc. (Research)/ B.S./B. Arch/M. Sc./ M.A./ MCA or equivalent/integrated M.Sc./ integrated B.S.-M.S./integrated M.E./ M.Tech (post-B.Sc.)/integrated M.E./ M.Tech or dual degree).
2.     Currently in the final year students are also eligible to apply for this exam.
3.     There is no age limit for appearing for GATE.

How to Apply

1.     GATE 2018 application should be submitted only online mode via GOAPS website:
2.     At first aspirants should visit the official website - and register as a new user using valid and working e-mail ID, password and mobile number.
3.     After due registration you will get your unique enrolment ID (a reference ID for future communication) and password to access GOAPS website mentioned above.
4.     Now go to GOAPS website for filling the GATE 2018 application form and upload your color photograph, scanned signature, required documents (scanned copy in PDF format) and other details.
5.     Pay your application fee by using either net banking or debit/credit card. Fee is neither refundable nor transferable.
6.     Download your admit card and keep in safe place.

2.     Once you submitted your application, change in subject would not be possible at any condition.
3.     GATE examination for all 23 papers will be conducted only as online computer based test (CBT).
4.     GATE score is valid for 3 years from the date of announcement of the results.
5.     Request for any changes in the exam centre or date/time specified in the admit card would not be possible at any condition.  
6.     Aspirants are encouraged to keep GOAPS enrolment ID and password in safe and secure place.
