UPSC Announces New IES Openings for Young Graduate Engineers





Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released a notification inviting eligible candidates (Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering) for Engineering Services Examination (ESE) or Indian Engineering Services (IES) 2018 to be held at three levels, preliminary, mains and interview. ESE Online Application Process is now started on Sep 27, 2017. The last date to submit application form is October 23, 2017. ESE 2018 preliminary examination is on January 07, 2018. Interested candidates may register and fill the application through online mode only from 27-09-017 to 23-10- 2017.


Aspiring candidates are first necessitated to go to UPSC official website and fill an online application form with utmost care. The application form is integrated with payment gateway for your fee payment that is as follows.


ESE 2018 Application Fees:

GN and OBC candidates are required to pay Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only) while SC/ST/PH candidates are exempted from payment of any fee. Female candidates are also exempted for paying any fee.
 





About UPSC ESE:

Indian Engineering Services (IES) is reasonably similar to other Indian civil services like Indian Forest Service (IFS) or Indian Economic Service (IES) and in order to search for talented engineer graduates, union public service commission is conducted a combined three-stage national level exam on annual basis that is called Engineering Services Examination (ESE).

Candidates attempting in ESE comes from reputed educational institutions like Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of sciences etc. and after selecting they are assigned in middle managerial positions in the bureaucracy under central government.  ESE officers (Technocrats) formulate public policies and manage public services in the wide-ranging segment of public sector of the economy covering the railways, road, construction, inspection, manufacturing, supply, defense, public works, power, telecommunication etc. and that’s the reason these officials carry high respect and status in the society. 

ESE is organized to recruit for various engineering services that are divided into four categories which are further sub-divided, as mentioned below-

Civil engineering:

Indian Railway Service of Engineers, Indian Railway Stores Service, Central Engineering Service, Indian Defence Service of Engineers, Indian Ordinance Factories Services, Central Water Engineering, Central Engineering Service (Roads) and P&T Building Works Service.

Mechanical Engineering: 

Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers, Indian Railway Stores Service, Central Water Engineering, Central Power Engineering Service, Indian Ordinance Factories Service, Indian Naval Armament Service, Corps of EME, Ministry of Defence, Indian Navy, Central Electrical & Mechanical Engineering Service, Geological Survey of India, Indian Inspection Service, Indian Supply Service, Indian Defence Service of Engineers and Central Engineering Service (Roads).

Electrical Engineering: 

Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers, Indian Railway Stores Service, Central Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Service, Indian Naval Armament Service, Indian Ordnance Factories Service, Central Power Engineering Service, Indian Defence Service of Engineers, Corps of E.M.E, Ministry of Defence, Indian Navy and Indian Supply Service.

Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering:

Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers, Indian Railway Stores, Indian Ordnance Factories Service, Indian Naval Armament Service, Central Power Engineering Services, Corps of E.M.E., Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Communication and IT – Department of Telecommunication, Indian Navy, Indian Inspection Service, Indian Supply Service, Indian Telecommunication Service.

Eligibility Criteria for ESE 2018:

        1.     Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Engineering (B.E. / B. Tech) from a recognized university or equivalent. M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subjects also acceptable for certain services / posts only.
        2.     A candidate for this examination must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st August, 2018 i.e., he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1988 and not later than 1st August, 1997.
        3.     Candidates who have appeared in the final examination of the degree programme are also eligible.
        4.     Upper age limit relaxation is provided to candidates as per notification.


Structure of Examination:

IES 2018 is a combined three-stage exam includes pre, mains and personality test/interview. Preliminary exam contains two papers and objective type of questions while mains also contain two conventional papers with descriptive questions. Finally, the interview would carry 200 marks. Details of structure of examination can be seen in the following figure. 

    

There will be one-third (0.33) penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the objective type question papers.


How to Apply:

     1.     IES 2018 application should be submitted only online mode. So read the form filling detailed instructions very carefully because changes are not allowed in the online application, once it is submitted.

     3.     IES 2018 application form filling is in the two-part process.
     4.     At first go to official, website and click the link “Online Application for Various Examination of UPSC” then click the link “Click Here for Part-I” given at the right-hand side from the next page open
     5.     Read the brief instructions from the next page open then scroll down the page and click “Yes/เคนाँ” tab.
     6.     Now you are at the part-I registration page. Fill all your particulars as shown in the following figure.
     7.     After filling all the details, click “Continue” tab.
     8.     Now you are at the part-II registration page and you have to do things in the following manner. At first Pay your fee (If applicable) => Center selection => Photo and sign upload => Agreeing the declaration
     9.     You have all done. Take a print out and keep your all details in the safe place for further communication. 
   

 
IES 2018 Facts to Remember:

1.     You can see the syllabus of each paper on UPSC IES 2018 notification.
2.     Once you submitted your application, any change would not be possible at any condition.
3.     Candidates should carefully decide about his/her choice for the centre and engineering discipline for the examination at the time of filling application form.
4.     Conventional papers must be answered in English. Question paper will be set in English only.
5.     In the Personality Test special attention will be paid to assessing the candidate’s capacity for leadership, initiative and intellectual curiosity, tact and other social qualities, mental and physical energy, powers of practical application and integrity of character.   
6.     Aspirants are encouraged to keep IES enrolment ID and password in safe and secure place for further communication.
