SSC CHSL 10+2 Exam 2017: How to Apply Online



Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced tentatively 3259 vacancies and will hold Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) exam for the recruitment to the post of Lower Divisional Clerk/Junior Secretariat Assistant, Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant and Data Entry Operator. Interested candidates may apply only from 18 November 2017 to 18 December 2017.


Aspiring candidates are first required to go to SSC official website and fill an online application form with utmost care. Only one online application is allowed to be submitted by a candidate for this examination. Hence, the candidates are advised to exercise due diligence at the time of filling their application forms. 

Fee Payment:

The application form is integrated with the payment gateway for your fee payment that is Rs. 100/- only for male general and OBC categories of candidates. 

NB- Women candidates and candidates belonging to scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, physically handicapped and ex-serviceman are exempted from paying application fee.

NB- Fee can be paid by using SBI challan/SBI net banking or by using Visa/Master card/Maestro credit card/debit card.

Pay Scales/Bands:

Lower Division Clerk (LDC)/ Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA): pay band-1 (Rs. 5200-20200), grade pay: Rs. 1900 (pre-revised)

Postal Assistant (PA)/Sorting Assistant (SA): pay band-1 (Rs. 5200-20200), grade pay: Rs. 2400 (pre-revised)

Data Entry Operator (DEO), grade ‘A’, pay band-1 (Rs. 5200-20200), grade pay: Rs. 2400 (pre-revised)

Educational Qualifications and Age Limits:

Candidates must have passed 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.

For the post of Data Entry Operator, candidates must have passed 12th standard in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized board or university.

NB- Candidates who have not yet acquired but will acquire the educational qualification and produce documentary evidence from the board/university in support thereof as on August 1, 2018 will also be eligible.

Candidates should not be exceeded 27 years of age as on 01.08.2018. Age relaxation beyond the upper age limit is as follows-

SC/ST- 5 years
OBC- 3 years
PwD- 10 years
PwD + OBC- 13 years
PwD + SC/ST- 15 years
Ex-S- 03 years

Structure of Examination

SSC CHSL exam is a combined three-stage exam includes tier-I (Computer Based Examination), tier-II (Descriptive Paper- Pen and Paper Mode), and tier-III (Typing Test/Skill test).
                                                                                                                  
Tier-I Computer Based examination (Objective Type)


NB- For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one half or 0.50 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score.

Tier-II Descriptive Paper (Pen and Paper mode)

This paper would be of 100 marks and time allowed for this paper is one hour (20-minute compensatory time will also be provided to the candidates mentioned in para 7 of notification).

The prime objective of this paper is to assess the writing skill of candidates which is necessary for Government jobs.

This paper comprises-
Essay Writing- 200-250 words
Letter/Application Writing- 150-200 words
The minimum qualifying marks required in this paper is 33 percent.

Tier-III Typing Test/Skill Test

Typing test is only qualifying in nature.

The final merit of the successful candidates would be determined on the basis of total score obtained by them in tier-I and tier-II.

How to Apply:


1.     SSC CHSL 10+2 exam application should be submitted only online mode. So read the form filling detailed instructions very carefully because changes are not allowed in the online application, once it is submitted.
2.     At first, go to official website and click the tab ‘Apply’ and then click ‘CHSL’ and then click the link ‘Click Here to Apply’.
3.     If you are a new user then you have to register first and then you will be able to fill the application form.
4.     On submission of registration form, a registration ID and password will be generated. Write down this registration ID and password and keep at safe place. This is your permanent registration ID and password which would be required to apply for this examination as well as any other recruitment of the commission.
5.     Your registration would only be completed only after uploading your photograph and digital signature.
6.     After completing the registration part you can proceed to fill up online application form.
7.     The candidates already registered may login their account and proceed to fill the online application form.
8.     After login your account, enter all the required details then thoroughly check all fields and edit if needed, before final submission. After final submission of online application, no change in any particulars shall be allowed.
9.     After submission of online application, you need to be required to pay fee except exempted categories.
10. When you pay your fee successfully, your application is completed. Take a print out of this application for your record.
